Madame Rinnji J. Larioux

Sharp-dressed Witch

Rinnji Larioux is an Elezen of both high and low birth. Born the bastard of a wealthy Lord and his chambermaid, Rinnji has the distinction of being of mixed Ishgardian and Duskwight heritage. Yet despite this, the Lord kept the child, and made Rinnji his heir. Blind since birth, the naturally magically gifted Lordling was taught the Old Magick by an aged Duskwight Witchdoctor, allowing Rinnji to 'see' through the use of Aethersense. After running away from home at age seven-and-ten to alchemically transition from male to female, Rinnji found herself a new life, far from Coerthas. A brilliant young witch, Rinnji lives in a quaint cottage in La Noscea, where her services in all things magical may be sought... for a price.

Seeking Witch for Hire
Perhaps you've come across some strange magical mystery that can only be solved by a professional. Or maybe you've found yourself at the wrong end of a cult of Black Mages and need someone skilled at counter hexxes. Or perhaps you're simply looking for an instructor in all things wild magicks. Local rumors may tell you where you might find such a professional...
A Knight of Ishgard
You are a Knight in service of House Dzemael, House Larioux, or one of the other minor houses that serves at the pleasure of House Dzemael. You have been charged by your Lord or Lady to present yourself to service to the estranged bastard heiress of House Larioux. If the ages line up, you may have met her before, if you ever attended gatherings at Castle Larioux before or immediately following the Calamity.
Veteran of the Telophoroi
You could not deny the Grand Company's call against the Telophoroi and the Final Days. Perhaps you aided against the towers in Eorzea, or took the fight directly to Garlemald as a member of the Ilsabard Contingent. Among the united forces of Eorzea's Grand Companies, a striking White Witch and her trusted Porxie helping to heal the minds of the Tempered. Perhaps she brought you back from the brink, as well...
The Hangover Part IV
You like to drink. Last night, you drank too much. You find on your person a possession with the seal of House Larioux, despite being a local of Ul'dah/Limsa Lominsa/Kugane, where Ishgardian nobles are sacredly seen. Still, figuring you're in for a reward/it's the right thing to do/you've nothing better to do, you ask around the bar and trace the trinket back to Mist...
Childhood Acquaintance
House Larioux's grounds held more than members of the House. Workmen, traders, and travelers from all over the north -- Hellsguard, Miqo'te, Ala Mhigans, Sharlayans, and more -- would stop by to work or stay inside the castle walls. Noblemen and their families from across the north would often come by for great feasts and hunts. Your family might have come, and perhaps, you have already met the Madame, as youths.
The Crystal Braves
You were brought into The Crystal Braves with the promise of making Eorzea better. Instead you were betrayed, your hopes dashed. However you have picked up the pieces of your life in the intervening years, something calls for you to reconnect with one of your fellows. Perhaps a chance encounter with Rinnji brings those halcyon days back to you, or it is with more purpose that you seek out your former comrade.

About

History

Honor in ServiceHouse Larioux has existed for as long as the state of Ishgard. Their found myth states that their sire, Renault Larioux I, gave his life in service for Lord Dzemael, ensuring that his kin would be at their House's right hand for as long as Ishgard's walls stood.Out on the frontier, on the borders of Dravania, in the Chocobo Forest, does stand the majestic White Halls of House Larioux. Within these walls lives a hardy folk from all walks of life, living and working in service of their wealthy Lords and Ladies.

A silver bird on a white wall, in a field of blueHouse Larioux makes her fortune, and shows her worth to House Dzemael, by being the realm's foremost experts on Chocobo Husbandry. That they hold exclusive breeding rights to some of the north's most sought after bloodlines helps, of course.Legend has it that Renault I had in his possession a legendary Silver Chocobo, to which all his many bird bloodlines can trace themselves back. Historians largely agree that this is a fabrication, though some on the fringes, and those within House Larioux, attest to its authenticity.

His LordshipRenee Larioux II became Lord of House Larioux upon the passing of his father, Lord Raiph Larioux. An ambitious man who resented his Lord Father's soft touch, Renee's reign has seen House Larioux shore up its status within Ishgard, while making lucrative trade deals abroad.Lord Renee lost his first wife, Lady Odelia nee Dzemael, in childbirth. Renee became obsessed with producing a male heir that, even when her chirurgeons warned against her having any other children. His second wife, the Countess Nadia Dupuis of Gridania, left him after they were together for seven long years. His current wife, who has been unable to give him children, is the Lady Amelie Larioux, his much younger cousin.Between the three of them, Lord Renee has twelve trueborn daughters, and not a son to inherit among them. It was only when he took to bed his 19-year-old chambermaid, the Duskwight Celie Beaumont, that Halone granted him a son.Halone has a sense of humor.

The Young LordTrading her son for a handsome sum of gil, the child born of Lord Larioux's impropriety was naturalized and given the name Renault Larioux XIII.Celie Beaumont was never seen in Coerthas again. The first 17 years of her life, Rinnji lived in Castle Larioux with the expectation of succeeding her Lord Father as his male heir. Though she benefited from an extensive private education, young Renault chafed under the expectations, finding little to love about the responsibilities of an Ishgardian noble.

The Runaway ApprenticeUpon her 17th Nameday, she gathered her tools of spellcraft and her trusted steed, and made her way to the Twelveswood, where she took on the name of Rinnji the Blind.Blind since birth, Rinnji had been taught Aethersight (and White Magic) by a mad old Duskwight wizard, whom her Lord Father hired after years of other mages unsuccessfully trying to cure her of her blindness. With his teachings in The Old Magick, Rinnji had a weapon against The Elementals, and a skill that many who lived outside the law in The Shroud needed.

The Witch of the WildsOver the next year and a half, Rinnji's notoriety among the Twelveswood's underclass and criminal world grew; As did her own height. Though rumors spread across the Woodwailers of a Duskwight Witch that was defying Padjali edicts, Rinnji was hardly the only mage of such description, allowing her to go undetected until such time as she decided, finally, to head south.

The Free AgentAfter traveling to Ul'dah and beginning her Alchemical Transmographication from Male-To-Female (she had already been living as a young woman since she left Coerthas), Rinnji eventually settled in Limsa Lominsa. While she couldn't practice as an open White Mage, being a "Duskwight Witch" raised coinpurses instead of pitchforks in Vylbrand, allowing Rinnji, for the first time, to live a comfortable life. It's during this time that Rinnji's love life blossomed and she met and married Inferi Osgehennae, a Sea Wolf Privateer.

The Crystal BraveRinnji's upbringing had made her cynical. But upon hearing the mission of Alphinaud Leveilluer and his Crystal Braves, she took it upon herself to join their ranks. The early moons were some of the best in her young life -- Making friends and a difference. She was proud of what she had become, of what she was doing. Then the night of the Bloody Banquet came, and the Braves, as they had been, ended. When the Scions eventually called on loyal Braves to return, she remained silent, nor did she seek out and support Ilberd.

The Seasoned WitchThe Bloody Banquet would not be the last tragedy that struck the young woman's life. After only four years of marriage, Inferi Osgehennae was killed in action.Returning to her life from before the Braves, Rinnji once more became a Witch-for-Hire. But she had learned much in the intervening years, and would continue to learn still. Not content with being a capable White Mage, she turned her attention to Black and Red Magicks, and eventually, Blue. It is in her studies, her brief but fleeting romances that, and bottle after bottle of wine, that she hid herself from all that she had lost.

The ContingencyWhen the mysterious Telophoroi appeared, the Maelstrom needed mages of skill to wield Porxies and remove the taint of Tempering. Rinnji proved so skilled at this in the fields of Western La Noscea's Sahagin Spawning Grounds, that she was recruited to join the effort to liberate Garlemald. Far from being greeted as heroes, the Ilsabard Contingent fought an uphill battle against the Telophoroi, for the hearts and literal minds of the Garlean people.Rinnji had thought she understood war. She hadn't.

The Sharp-Dressed WitchIt would take time for Rinnji to recuperate after returning from Garlemald. But once she had, a new-found desire to build the connections she lost with the falling of the Crystal Braves burned inside her. Life is simply too frail to be lived alone. As her 20s wind to a close, Rinnji's future has never felt better. (It helps that she drinks a lot less since Garlemald...)
